Ipoh – A total of 83 male and female models showcased fashion collections from designers representing five countries at the International IPOH Fashion Week (IIFW) 2023 in Jalan Bandar Timah, Pekan Lama Ipoh today.

Nidya Sasi, a fashion designer from Indonesia, stated that IIFW2023 provided an opportunity for her to introduce her latest collection.

“This is the first time I have received an invitation from the organisers of IIFW. I am very excited to present my collection to the people of Ipoh in particular.

“I am introducing my latest collection of 14 ‘Indonesian batik.’ My collection is a ‘street fashion’ concept, not exclusive; it is suitable for the street fashion presentation today.

“I am introducing a collection of ‘modern kebaya’ attire. I chose the fabric of ‘woven batik,’ which is indeed the identity of Indonesia’s cultural heritage.

“I am touched and happy with the response from the community here. Certainly, next year I will return with more creative and interesting fashion designs,” she said.

On the other hand, Wedding Consultant Mohd Khair Johari Mohamed Saleh, 29, from Ipoh, said his fashion designs follow current market trends and are specifically designed for individuals ranging from regular to plus sizes.

“This is my first participation in IIFW. I am presenting a collection of clothing for plus-size individuals with a ‘relaxed’ (beach wear) concept.

“In my opinion, larger-sized individuals should not be excluded from the fashion world. They also have the right to showcase various fashions that should be suitable for their body size and personality. They can also be stylish and look beautiful.

“Today, I am showcasing 10 pairs of outfits worn by plus-size models. Their appearance has indeed captured the audience’s attention,” said the owner of a boutique in Gunung Lang, Ipoh.

Meanwhile, the Founder of IIFW, Louis Sebastian, mentioned that the participation of fashion designers this year has increased compared to the previous year.

“This year, a total of 18 fashion designers are involved in IIFW, compared to only 12 individuals last year.

“This participation involves five countries: Indonesia, Nepal, Singapore, China, Pakistan, and Malaysia. The involvement of models from Iran also adds vibrancy to this annual event.

“For next year, in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2024, IIFW will bring in more participants from around the world with the touch of more creative and innovative fashion designers,” he said when interviewed by Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic.

Last night, HRH Raja Permaisuri Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, graciously attended the IIFW Red Carpet Royal Charity Gala Dinner with the theme ‘Fashion with a Heart’ at Jubilee Ballroom, Royal Perak Golf Club.

Accompanying her were YTM Raja Puan Besar Perak Raja Nazhatul Shima Sultan Idris Shah.

Louis added that the second day of IIFW2023 in Jalan Bandar Timah received a positive response from the diverse population of Ipoh.

On the third day, IIFW2023 will be held at Lumut Naval Town Waterfront Maritime (Dataran Putra).

“The highlight event in Lumut will be more festive with a performance by local artist Ayu Damit.

“Ayu Damit made a name for herself through the reality singing competition ‘One in a Million.’ She also won third place in the reality TV program ‘Gegar Vaganza’ season seven in 2020,” he said.

IIFW2023 takes place for three days from December 1 to 3, 2023.
