TAIPING: The flexibility for students to attend school without wearing uniforms remains applicable in 2024, said Deputy Minister of Education, Wong Kah Woh.

Kah Woh stated that the decision made by the Malaysian Ministry of Education (KPM) on this matter was one of the initiatives to assist affected students.

“Currently, we can see schools in the East Coast areas affected by floods. For KPM, we always adhere to humanitarian principles.

“We want to provide convenience and flexibility to students during their learning sessions.

“What’s important is that learning takes precedence over other issues,” he told reporters last night.

He said this when asked to comment on the uniform wearing guidelines for the 2024 school session.

Kah Woh was met after attending the Taiping 150 Program at the Taiping Heritage Square here on Sunday.

Also present was the Mayor of Taiping Municipal Council (MPT), Khairul Amir Mohamad Zubir.

Meanwhile, when asked how long the flexibility would be given, he said it would be applicable for a period to be specified later.

“We will monitor this flexibility from time to time; for now, there is no discussion on how long.

“But we are aware that the issues we need to address now are not only the hot weather but also considering students affected by floods.

“Their school equipment and uniforms might be damaged due to the flood. What’s crucial is ensuring these children are ready to return to school and learn,” he said.

On May 3, 2023, KPM allowed students, teachers, and administrative staff in all educational institutions to wear sports attire due to the hot weather, with special permission aimed at preventing health complications.
