Phone Scammer Fraud Cases in Perak Record Losses of RM30.5 Million

IPOH – Over the past two months, phone scam fraud cases in Perak have resulted in losses totalling RM30.5 million across 325 investigated cases.

According to Perak State Police Chief, Dato’ Sri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, the losses were recorded from January 1st to February 29th, despite a decrease in the number of cases compared to the previous year.

“In the same period last year, we received 177 cases. However, this year, the number of investigation cases has increased to 346 cases, including various fraud categories,” he said.

“In terms of online fraud, we recorded 325 investigation cases, a decrease of 148 cases compared to the previous year,” he added.

Mohd Yusri explained the situation while speaking at the Monthly Assembly of Perak Police Chief at the Perak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) here.

Also present at the assembly was the State Legislative Assembly Member for Canning cum Deputy Speaker of the Perak State Assembly, Jenny Choy Tsi Jen, and Chief Executive Officer of SADC Perak, Dato’ Yahanis Yahaya.

Both individuals have consistently supported and assisted the Perak Police in carrying out activities or programs, especially those involving the police and the community.

Mohd Yusri also emphasized that the assembly was to appreciate the contributions of police retirees’ associations, which also serve as support for the police force.

He also expressed gratitude to the media for their assistance in conveying information to the public about the tasks and successes of the police force through extensive coverage.
