By Zaki Salleh

IPOH: The initiative of the Tuisyen Cikgu Saarani (TCS) program by the Perak state government has impacted the improvement of the 2023 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results in Perak.

The TCS Program is the brainchild of the Menteri Besar Perak, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

It has been implemented since 2021 for SPM, Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) students.

According to the Perak State Education Director, Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Mahson, the funds channeled through the TCS initiative have narrowed the achievement gap between urban and rural SPM candidates, recording a difference of 0.01 points.

“TCS allocated RM2.67 million and we were able to improve the performance of candidates as well as the achievement gap between rural and urban candidates, which we find very good,” he added.

Yesterday, the Perak Education Department announced that the performance of 2023 SPM candidates improved by 0.17 points, achieving 4.75 points compared to 4.92 points for 2022 SPM candidates.

When launched, the TCS program benefited nearly 200,000 students across Perak, especially from poor and low-income (B40) families.

Meanwhile, Saarani, in a Facebook post, congratulated the staff of SMKA Sultan Azlan Shah and SMKA Kerian for being listed as the top 2 schools in Perak for SPM 2023.

SMKA Sultan Azlan Shah recorded a School Average Grade (GPS) of 1.45 with 25 students achieving all A’s, while SMKA Kerian had a GPS of 1.51 with 33 students achieving all A’s.
