Over 3 Million Vehicles Enter Perak During Festive Season

IPOH: The Chinese New Year celebrations, long weekends, and school holidays have caused an influx of vehicles to flood the roads.

As a state strategically located along the central corridor of the North-South route, Perak is no exception. During this festive period, it witnesses a significant surge in traffic.

It is estimated that over three million vehicles will enter Perak via the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and federal roads during the celebrations, double the usual volume.

Perak Road Safety Council (MKJR) Deputy Chairman, Datuk Nor Sham Rahman, stated that this estimate encompasses road users traveling between Tanjung Malim and Parit Buntar.

“This figure excludes vehicles using the West Coast Expressway (WCE).

“The projected increase in traffic flow is expected to begin on January 27 and 28, extending to the Saturday and Sunday following the celebrations as people return to the capital,” he said.

Road users are advised to utilise the West Coast Expressway (WCE) to alleviate congestion.

“Motorists, especially those from Kuala Selangor, Banting, and Sabak Bernam, are encouraged to use the WCE up to Changkat Jering and rejoin the PLUS Highway from there,” he added.
