FEMI9 FC Aims to Develop More Women Football Players in Perak

By Aida Aziz

IPOH: Their mission and goal are clear, to develop and enhance the potential of more women football players in Perak, specifically.

FEMI9 Football Club (pronounced feminine) is now taking a more ‘aggressive’ approach in preparing players to advance to higher levels.

It is the first registered women’s football club in Perak.

According to its President, Noranita Muhamad Pahri, the B16 team consists of 22 players aged 13 to 16 years.

“Building a women’s team takes time, and we are developing it progressively. This year, we plan to establish a B12 team for players aged 10 to 12.

“We have three female coaches and one male coach. Training takes place on Saturdays and Sundays,” she said.

Currently, FEMI9 is based and trains at the SK Sri Kinta field here.

Noranita, who is also the head coach, mentioned that they have received strong cooperation from the school and the Kinta Utara District Education Office (PPD).

“The players come from various districts in Perak and other states like Kedah. The commitment and spirit shown are truly impressive.

“For those living far away, they can stay overnight at the school’s dormitory,” she said when met here.

Speaking about the development of football in the state, she noted positive changes in terms of acceptance and support.

Although there are still perceptions about women playing football, she said all sports come with their own risks.

“Most of the registered women’s football clubs are in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, while there are fewer in Perak.

“Maybe it’s due to cultural factors or stigma, but if we consider other sports, they can be just as tough. If given the right knowledge and exposure, it won’t be a problem,” she said.

Meanwhile, 15-year-old Nur Dania Batrisya Muhamad Hamali from Kampar, who joined the team in 2023, shared her experience.

“I’ve been interested in football since I was little. I used to play in the village near Malim Nawar with my male friends, and they taught me many football skills.

“One of my achievements with this team was participating in an international friendly match between Malaysia and Singapore,” she said.

14-year-old Nur Auni Syazaliana Mohd Zakimi from Alor Setar, Kedah, decided to join the team after seeing their style of play.

“I take the train from Kedah to Ipoh whenever there’s training or a match. My family and school fully support my interest,” she said.

14-year-old Nur Ain Izzati Aeidi from Ipoh, a goalkeeper, said she used to participate in athletics before choosing football.

“My interest grew as I often followed my brother to goalkeeper training. I’m happy to be part of this team,” she said.
