Bukit Larut reopens, visitors can stay and camp

TAIPING: After being closed for five years due to a landslide in November 2018, the Bukit Larut Resort here will finally reopen to the public.

Starting from April 1, this popular tourist destination will be open, particularly for those who enjoy recreational activities.

The Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) has, however, allowed camping activities to begin on February 17 at designated sites.

MPT President, Khairul Amir Mohamad Zubir, said that all visitors wishing to enter Bukit Larut must scan the provided QR code when entering and exiting the resort area.

He mentioned that the reopening of Bukit Larut aligns with preparations for the Malaysia Tourism Year 2026 (TMM 2026).

“There are three areas in Bukit Larut – Beringin, Angkasa, and Tempinis – for visitors to stay overnight at rates ranging from RM500 to RM1,000 per unit or RM150 to RM500 per night.

“Visitors can rent the entire bungalow or rent rooms within the bungalows.

“The jeep vehicle rental service to ascend the hill will also be reopened, but only for those who rent the bungalows.

“For those who wish to hike up, we also provide luggage transport services using vehicles for a certain charge,” he explained in a statement.

Khairul Amir emphasized that the reopening of the Bukit Larut Resort is expected to revitalize tourism in Taiping ahead of TMM 2026.

“Besides Taiping Zoo and Night Safari, Taiping Lake Gardens, and other tourist attractions in Taiping, Bukit Larut has always been famous for its natural beauty.

“Therefore, MPT does not want to be left behind in efforts to promote the tourism sector in Malaysia, especially the tourism of Taiping city,” he said.

Since its closure, only recreational activities and hiking could be done at Bukit Larut, but at the visitors’ own risk and responsibility.

The Public Works Department has been gradually repairing the roads and slopes in the area affected by the landslide incident.
