Ipoh’s food scene never stays still for long, and now there’s even more reason for excitement with the arrival of Chef Simon Lee at STG and the anticipated revival of The Legendary Scotch Pub.
In Perak, STG has grown into a household name, offering a diverse range of dining experiences that combine quality cuisine with inviting spaces. With outlets like Café Wonderland, Tasik Cermin Ipoh, STG Taiping and STG Deli+Cafe, the group continues to evolve, offering diners an array of culinary adventures.

The latest addition to their talented team is Chef Simon Lee, a culinary innovator whose passion for food has shaped Ipoh’s fine dining scene. His journey began in luxury hotel kitchens before making his mark in Ipoh at Citrus & Indulgence Fine Dining Restaurant.
Bringing together contemporary European influences and molecular gastronomy, he combines classic techniques with modern innovation. Known for his creativity and refined palate, Simon has earned a respected place in Ipoh’s culinary scene.

At STG, Simon’s role focuses primarily on curated menus for private dining and events. He works closely with STG’s Head Chef, King Guan, ensuring that menus across STG’s outlets maintain their signature quality while introducing new elements. However, diners can also look forward to his influence as STG expands its offerings.
“I’ve followed Simon’s food since his Citrus days,” says Alvin Wan of STG Group. “I’ve always been a fan of his cooking, and over the years, we’ve shared many great meals together, often talking about food and the possibility of working together. Now, having him collaborate with our team and oversee menu development at STG Group is something I’m truly looking forward to.”
For over 45 years, Scotch Pub has been a local institution, celebrated for its ice-cold beers, signature Inchi Kabin, and classic Western fare. While its recent closure left many wondering what’s next, there’s good news ~ STG has stepped in to bring it back, refreshed, and ready for a new era.
“Scotch Pub & Restaurant has been a neighbourhood favourite for generations,” says Alvin Wan, co-founder of STG Group. “It’s time for a much-needed upgrade that keeps the charm regulars love,0 while welcoming the next generation of diners.”

Though renovations have just begun, Mr. Wan has assured that the name and heritage will remain intact. He also promises ice-cold beers and the return of some local favourites, ensuring that familiar comforts are not lost in the refresh.
“Ipoh’s food scene has come a long way,” Simon says. “Diners today have a better appreciation for quality ingredients, skilful preparation, and elegant presentation. It’s exciting to be part of STG’s evolution.”
