IPOH, April 15 – The Visit Perak Year 2024 (VPY 2024) campaign recorded an outstanding achievement as tourist arrivals surpassed initial targets over the past year.
State Tourism Committee chairman YB Loh Sze Yee said the number included 10.2 million domestic visitors and nearly 941,000 international tourists, exceeding the original targets of eight million and 350,000, respectively.
“This success reflects the strength of Perak’s tourism products and the close collaboration between the government, private sector and local communities,” he said during the VPY 2024 Appreciation Ceremony and Kopiro Anniversary Celebration at the Tourism Perak Office recently.
The districts of Kinta (3.72 million), Manjung (2.68 million), and Larut Matang & Selama (1.55 million) recorded the highest number of visitors, highlighting the competitive appeal of various destinations across the state.
A total of 122 events were held throughout the campaign, including 32 international-level programmes such as the Rainforest Challenge and Malaysia Ultra Trail.
Tourism mascot Kopiro was also celebrated in conjunction with its anniversary. The character combines two iconic state elements — “Kopi O” and “Tapir” — symbolising Ipoh’s white coffee heritage and Perak’s biodiversity.
YB Loh also extended his appreciation to all parties involved, adding that the spirit of #PromisingPerak will continue in the lead-up to Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
