Letter: Public Safety

By S. Param

Lately several tragic incidents in the country have highlighted the importance of not neglecting safety. Adhering to safety precautions and protocols safe lives and property.

From the gas pipe inferno to the drowning of a child in a swimming pool in Penang recently reflects on the sorry state of affairs of the relevant authorities and the society at large when it comes to safety.

I have witnessed on several occasions and instances during  my travelling within the country where safety been ignored at various levels  to cater for conveniences

What’s more worrying and troubling to note is the attitude and indifference of young parents to the issue of safety these days.

I have come across on several occasions especially in recreational parks and swimming pools where these young parents are glued to their hand phones while their children are venturing into the danger zones.

The relevant authorities should immediately take the necessary measures to create the much needed awareness among young parents on the importance of child safety  and security.

It’s apparent from the number of tragic and unwanted incidents in the country that  we are ignoring safety standards and protocols at all levels.

It’s high time the authorities concerned wake up to the reality and take the necessary measures to instill the much needed safety awareness in the public.

Take note: Safety protocols, guidelines and procedures are designed to protect the public and individuals from harm.
