Arulmigu Visalatchi Sametha Viswanathar Sivalayam Paripalana Saba, a Hindu temple located on Jalan Sungai Pari in Buntong, distributed essential groceries and cash aid to 10 underprivileged families on May 2.
The recipients—hailing from areas such as Buntong, Menglembu, Silibin, and Jelapang—are experiencing severe financial hardship. Some are unemployed, while others are full-time caregivers to disabled family members. To support them, the temple has been running a monthly aid programme, offering both groceries and modest financial assistance.
“We distribute groceries once a month. Devotees who come to pray contribute by placing items in a dedicated donation box at the temple,” said Muthukumar Renganathan, Deputy Chairman of the temple committee.
The aid packages typically include rice, flour, instant noodles, biscuits, and other household staples. Families also receive cash assistance of between RM100 and RM200, depending on their needs.
The initiative began two years ago, inspired by Muthukumar’s personal encounters with struggling families in the community. He expressed gratitude to temple devotees for their continued support, noting that the rising cost of living has only deepened the need for such assistance.
The families, in turn, expressed their sincere thanks for the temple’s ongoing support.
The temple hopes to expand the programme and welcomes donations and volunteers. Those interested in contributing groceries or helping with deliveries can contact Mr. Muthukumar (012-532 4799).
