Forget your usual Saturday plans! Something better will be brewing at Kompas International College this May 17. From 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, the students of KIC’s Diploma in Mass Communication programme are inviting the public to a one-day community event they’ve proudly put together themselves.
Called “Heart in Action”, this Parents’ Day celebration is a full-fledged effort to give back, connect with the public, and raise funds, all while building real-world experience in event planning and communication. The theme says it all: “Lend A Hand, Spread Your Love.”
The event is open to everyone. Families, children, students, and anyone who enjoys being part of something local and meaningful. Expect a vibrant, festive atmosphere as Kompas transforms into a mini street market with 20 student-organised stalls selling food, drinks, handmade crafts, lifestyle goods, and more.
“The goal is to bring people together,” says the organising team. “It’s not solely about fundraising, it’s about learning by doing and inviting the public to be part of it.”
For families with young children, a highlight will be the Children’s Colouring Competition, open to kids aged 3 to 12. Split into three age groups (3–6, 7–9, and 10–12), the competition promises trophies for the top winners in each group, and every participant will go home with a certificate and a stationery gift set.
Entry is RM10, and children should bring their own-coloured pencils or crayons.
There will also be a Recycle Clothes Corner, where attendees can donate clean, pre-loved clothes such as shirts, pants, blouses, and t-shirts. These will be sorted and distributed to families in need. It’s a great chance to clear out your closet for a good cause—just be sure to skip items like shoes, toys, undergarments, uniforms, or damaged clothing, which won’t be accepted.
To complete the atmosphere, live music performances from students of local music centres will fill the air with energy, giving young talents a chance to shine while entertaining the crowd.
Through this event, the student team hopes to raise RM3,500, which will go towards covering event costs and supporting Kompas International College’s ongoing community activities. But more than that, the organisers are hoping for connection, collaboration, and a meaningful day out for all.
Here’s what you need to know:
-
- Bring your family, friends and your shopping bag.
- Have kids aged 3–12? Sign them up for the colouring competition.
- Got clothes to give away? Pack them clean and ready.
- Want to browse, eat, and support? Just walk in. Everyone’s welcome.
Let’s show up for the students who are stepping up—and be part of something real this Parents’ Day.
