IPOH: The proposal to upgrade Ipoh Central Market with a fresh new look has reached its climax as five finalists are set to present their design ideas to a panel of judges today.
According to the Mayor of Ipoh, Zamakhshari Hanipah, the Ipoh City Council (MBI) has received an allocation of RM15 million to upgrade the market.
He said that RM500,000 has been allocated this year by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).
“KPKT has encouraged Local Authorities (PBT) to organize architectural concept idea competitions for all projects under KPKT funding worth RM10 million and above.
“This competition was first advertised on March 17 and will culminate with the announcement of the winner, expected on May 27, in conjunction with the 37th Anniversary of Ipoh’s city status,” he said.
He made the remarks while officiating the presentation session for the finalists of the Ipoh Central Market Upgrade Concept Design Idea Competition, held on Tuesday.
Also present were City Secretary Ahmad Munir Ishak and President of the Malaysian Institute of Architects, Ar. Adrianta Aziz.
