Additional CIC Established for Protection of Children and Women

TAIPING: Perak police have established a second Child Interview Centre (CIC) in Simpang, Taiping, to address sexual and abuse cases involving children and women.

The CIC functions to record video statements from children under 18 years old.

This center is equipped with high-tech tools to record statements for prosecution and investigation purposes.

Under the Child Witness Evidence Act 2007 (Act 676), the center plays a crucial role in protecting children’s rights and involvement in the criminal justice system.

It enhances the competency of children to testify in proceedings related to sexual crimes.

Earlier, the CIC Taiping was officially launched by the Head of the Perak Criminal Investigation Department, Senior Assistant Commissioner Luqman Abdul Rahman, representing the Perak Police Chief.

Also present was the Assistant Director of D11 – Sexual Crimes Investigation Unit for Women & Children, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department, ACP Wong Poi Lin.

In his officiating speech, Luqman expressed appreciation to the Perak state government, particularly through the State Executive Councillor for Women, Family, and Community Welfare Development, Dato’ Salbiah Mohamed, for their support in establishing the second CIC.

He stated that the establishment of the CIC reflects social awareness in championing the rights and well-being of children.
