IPOH: A drain overgrown with small trees and wild grass along Jalan Rapat Jaya, next to the Chinese cemetery, which was previously an eyesore, has now been cleared.
The cleaning work was carried out shortly after complaints about the issue were reported in Ipoh Echo / Peraktastic last week.
The drain area, which had resembled a small jungle, had long been neglected as if no party was responsible for maintaining the undergrowth there.
A resident, Letchumanan, expressed gratitude for the concern shown in cleaning up the area.
“Perhaps the authorities did intend to clean the drain, but regardless, residents hope that in the future it won’t be left until it’s covered in trees and tall grass,” he said.
Ipoh Echo / Peraktastic had reported last Wednesday the concerns of residents who wanted the drain—meant to channel rainwater during heavy downpours—to be cleared.
Due to the lack of maintenance and the unchecked growth of trees and grass, the situation had raised many questions.
In addition, residents believe that issues like drain maintenance should not arise if the responsible parties fulfill their duties.
