Traffic Congestion at Jalan Jumbo Jet Receive Community Feedback

By: Zaki Salleh

IPOH: A proposal to turn Jalan Jumbo Jet into a one-way road to accommodate a newly built hawker site had unintentionally resulted in traffic congestion, much to the dismay of residents and road users.

The bottleneck, which extended to the Carsem junction, was caused by traffic being funnelled into a single lane. This situation disrupted one of the main access routes in Taman Lapangan Terbang.

In response, Ipoh Mayor Datuk Zamakhshari Hanipah conducted a site visit to Jalan Jumbo Jet and Jalan Concorde to assess the situation firsthand.

His inspection revealed that the one-way conversion had limited alternative access routes for residents, creating unnecessary traffic pressure on the surrounding roads.

Among the proposed solutions raised by residents was the reopening of a section of Jalan Jumbo Jet — from the Jalan Lapangan Terbang junction to the Jalan Piper junction — to restore dual access.

This measure is expected to ease traffic flow at the Carsem junction and provide residents with a more efficient route in and out of the neighbourhood.

The site visit reflects the Ipoh City Council’s commitment to addressing real community issues through inclusive and practical solutions.

It is hoped that the matter will be resolved in phases to ensure the well-being of residents while supporting more sustainable and balanced urban development.
