Former teacher who went viral for hoarding trash returns to old habit

By Aida Aziz

IPOH: The home of a retired teacher who went viral five years ago for hoarding trash in her yard at Taman Bersatu, Simpang Pulai, is once again filled with garbage.

It is understood that the house, located at Persiaran Sengat Baru 11, is occupied by an elderly woman who has a habit of collecting trash and recyclable items—posing a risk of attracting venomous animals and raising health concerns.

According to a complainant who wished to be known as Roslan, the house was previously cleaned by the Ipoh City Council (MBI), but the situation has recurred several times despite media reports stating that the elderly woman does not suffer from any mental illness.

“The house is filled with trash, and it raises questions about why this elderly woman collects it—is it to sell or simply to store it at home?

“MBI has cleaned the garbage from the house multiple times, yet the homeowner continues the habit of hoarding rubbish,” he said when contacted.

As such, he urged the authorities to resolve the issue urgently to prevent any potential dangers, such as fire hazards or the presence of venomous animals like snakes, mosquitoes, and rats.

In 2020, media reports stated that around one ton of garbage was removed from the home of the retired teacher in Taman Bersatu, Simpang Pulai.

Additionally, it was reported that the state government would assist the woman, who lives in a double-storey terrace house, by providing counseling and advisory services.

It was found that the woman, who lives alone, has a fondness for collecting trash for recycling purposes.
