IPOH: Starting July 1, it is compulsory for drivers and passengers of tour and express buses to wear seatbelts.
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) said a compound fine of RM300 would be issued to those who fail to comply with the new enforcement.
This move comes in response to several recent road accidents involving such public transport vehicles, which have tragically resulted in the loss of lives.
Since 2019, the government has made it mandatory for all express buses to be equipped with seatbelts at every seat.
However, enforcement of their use by passengers has remained low due to a lack of awareness and monitoring.
