Spending on Love, Even in Tough Times!

IPOH – The wedding industry in Perak is showing strong signs of recovery post-pandemic, with more couples willing to spend generously to ensure their big day is elegant and memorable.

The recent Wedding Fiesta hosted by WEIL Hotel on July 12 and 13 provided a platform for selected vendors to showcase wedding packages that ranged from timeless classics to bespoke, premium experiences – a clear sign that demand for luxury weddings remains resilient.

According to Ruvanesh Aravind, 34, founder of Episode Events, although the pandemic saw a drop in the number of wedding ceremonies, the spending per event remained largely unchanged, with some couples even investing more for a truly exceptional experience.

“Among the Indian community, the desire for a flawless wedding remains strong, even though the country’s economy is still recovering,” he said.

Having planned nearly 80 weddings over the past seven years, Ruvanesh noted that demand for wedding planners continues to rise and has not slowed down his business in any way.

Victor Wong, better known as Mr. V, the founder of Les Marieez Galerie, shared a similar sentiment. He said his line of luxury bridal gowns remained in demand throughout the pandemic, with many clients still drawn to the elegance of classic, timeless designs.

“The demand for classic gowns hasn’t waned – even when other sectors were hit hard during the pandemic.

“Whether before or after the pandemic, there hasn’t been much difference. What matters is that we never gave up.

Many customers continue to opt for custom-made gowns and are willing to spend between RM3,000 and RM10,000 for a look that is uniquely theirs,” he explained.

Victor added that his boutique now boasts over 300 gown designs and continues to receive made-to-order requests tailored to each bride’s personality and style.

At the same time, WEIL Hotel has observed a resurgence in wedding spending trends, with more couples opting for all-inclusive packages that cover everything from food and décor to accommodation and even rooftop venues for solemnisation ceremonies or tea receptions.

“Some may think a five-star hotel is expensive, but when you factor in everything – from the sound system and banquet setup to the authentic cuisine – it’s a great deal.

We’re also able to tailor the menu to suit the couple’s budget,” said a WEIL Hotel representative.
