IPOH: The struggles of an elderly couple in Kampung Simee here have moved Econsave Klebang to extend aid in the form of RM1,000 worth of daily necessities.
The assistance, under the Econsave Prihatin programme, was given to 75-year-old Mokmein Jabar, who had both legs amputated due to diabetes, and his wife, 68-year-old Norliah Idris.
Econsave Klebang’s human resources executive, Nur Suhana Noor Mohamed, said the initiative is part of the supermarket’s ongoing commitment to helping the underprivileged, regardless of race.
“The story of Mokmein and his family touched our hearts, prompting Econsave to reach out.
“We hope this contribution will help ease their daily expenses,” she said in an interview with Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic.

Mokmein expressed his gratitude, saying the assistance came at the right time.
“Thank you to Econsave for stepping forward to help. I can no longer work and must now rely entirely on my wife and children.
“If someone could help me get prosthetic legs, I would be very happy. I once had one prosthetic leg, but it is no longer usable. With new ones, I could move about on my own and not burden my wife and son,” he said.
The couple’s plight, along with that of their 46-year-old son Azelan, who is mute, recently gained public attention after being highlighted in the media.
They have lived in a dilapidated house on land belonging to someone else for over 40 years. Mokmein, who lost both legs to diabetes, relies on his wife and two sons, one of whom is deaf and mute.
Those who wish to assist can contact Norliah at 011-3788 3841 or send contributions to her Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) account, 0810741000033687 (Norliah binti Idris).
