KUALA LUMPUR: The Ipoh Doughnut Economic City Action Plan was officially launched today at the KLCC Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
This launch marks a significant milestone in the effort to shape Ipoh into a progressive, prosperous, and resilient model city.

The plan is based on the concept of Doughnut Economics, which emphasizes a balance between social well-being, environmental preservation, and economic prosperity.
Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah officiated the launch of the action plan.

In his speech, Zamakhshari expressed his gratitude to all key strategic partners.
“Our appreciation goes to the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health as our knowledge partner, the Institut Darul Ridzuan as the state think tank, and Yayasan Hasanah for their strong support throughout the implementation of this initiative.
“We also value the collaboration of other strategic partners in realising this shared vision,” he said.

He emphasized that this action plan is not merely an official document, but a concrete roadmap for sustainable urban transformation.
“It ensures sustainable growth without compromising the well-being of people and the planet,” he added.
He further stated that the Ipoh Doughnut Economic City initiative has been recognized as Pioneer Project No. 15 under the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Plan.
“This affirms the Perak State Government’s commitment to making Ipoh an inclusive, competitive city and a benchmark not only for Malaysia, but also for the ASEAN region,” he said.
