Yesterday, the Junior Chamber International Ipoh (JCI) Ipoh conducted their official opening ceremony for their flagship environmental initiative “Plant to 1000” at AEON Mall Ipoh Station 18. This ceremony was commemorated with the planting of 30 trees on the premises.
Representing the guest of honour, YB Teh Kok Lim, Chairman of the Committee on Science, Environment and Green Technology, was YB Goh See Hua, the ADUN for Pasir Pinji.
In his speech, YB Goh noted that individually, the goal of planting 1000 trees throughout Perak would be very difficult, but through cooperation, this was a very achievable goal. He hoped that this was an initiative that will be continued by JCI Ipoh and its future presidents, beyond the end of 2025. He also stressed the importance of planting the right types of trees for long term environmental health as well as city planning. The wrong type of tree in the wrong location, may create a nuisance 5 years down the line.
With that in mind, the 30 trees planted at the premises consisted of a mix of Cinnamomum iners and Diospyros buxifolia.
The event continued after the tree planting with a children’s colouring contest and also booths set up for creating environmental awareness, which included displays for the board game, SDG Hero, a board game which promotes sustainable development goals.
Co-hosting the event alongside JCI Ipoh were Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Cawangan Perak, Kampus Seri Iskandar, Persatuan Sahabat Ekologi Perak, Cheng & Co Group, ESG-Co Service Corporation Association and the Perak Malaysian Red Crescent Chapter.
Supporting partners were SDG Hero, Eko Enzim Malaysia, A Plus Tuition Centre, NEE Event Solutions, Goodwill Dental Ipoh and WEIL Resources Sdn. Bhd.
