IPOH — “Vision is a priceless gift that must be cherished so that every moment in life remains meaningful.”
That was the reminder from the Ministry of Health (KKM), reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing public awareness and eye health care across Malaysia.

In conjunction with the National World Sight Day 2025 Celebration, KKM, in collaboration with the Perak State Health Department (JKNP), organised a series of awareness programmes at WEIL Hotel, Ipoh, aimed at expanding public access to quality eye screening and treatment services.
KKM said the celebration aligns with the nation’s aspiration to build a society with good vision quality for long-term well-being.
One of the main highlights of the programme was a free eye screening initiative led by the Ophthalmology Department of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB), involving more than 120 healthcare personnel.

The screenings prioritised high-risk groups, including cataract patients, individuals with diabetes and those with a family history of glaucoma. Children, teenagers, adults, and senior citizens were also included to ensure inclusive access to eye care services.
KKM emphasised that early detection and treatment are crucial in preventing serious complications that may lead to permanent blindness.
To further raise public awareness, various activities were held nationwide over two months, including free eye and health check-ups in collaboration with HRPB, the Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology, Tapah Hospital, and the Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA).

Other highlights included the “Walk Against Blindness 2025” with the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Perak Branch, and the “Every Story Counts” competition, which encouraged participants to share their inspirational journeys in maintaining eye health.
World Sight Day is observed globally on the second Thursday of October each year to raise awareness of the importance of vision care and the prevention of visual impairment.
KKM calls on Malaysians to value and protect their vision for a brighter and healthier future.
