IPOH, Oct 29 – The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, today officiated the opening of Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh, a new healthcare landmark in the state featuring world-class medical facilities.

His Royal Highness was accompanied by Raja Permaisuri Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, and welcomed by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Sunway Group Founder and Chairman Tan Sri Sir Dr Jeffrey Cheah, and Sunway Healthcare Group President Dato’ Lau Beng Long.

In his speech, Saarani said the establishment of Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh further strengthens Perak’s position as a leading healthcare hub in northern Malaysia and reflects investors’ confidence in the state’s growing potential.
He said the hospital is the fifth facility under the Sunway Healthcare Group, which aims to achieve a total capacity of more than 3,000 beds by 2030.
“This hospital is equipped with advanced medical technologies and modern treatment systems designed to enhance diagnostic accuracy and accelerate patient recovery,” he said.

Saarani added that the new facility complements the existing network of private hospitals in Ipoh, including Pantai Hospital Ipoh, KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital, Hospital Fatimah, Perak Community Specialist Hospital (PCSH) and Hospital Seri Botani, along with two more private medical centres currently under development.
“This combination further enhances Ipoh’s prominence as an integrated healthcare city, creating economic spillovers for the pharmaceutical, logistics, hospitality and tourism sectors,” he said.

He noted that the growth of the healthcare sector aligns with the Perak Sejahtera 2030 vision, which places people’s well-being and access to quality healthcare as a key measure of progress.
“The strong collaboration between the state government and private sector players such as Sunway Group demonstrates how synergy can strengthen the healthcare ecosystem and bring world-class medical services closer to the people,” he said.
Saarani also emphasised that the healthcare sector provides vast opportunities for local graduates through TVET programmes in nursing, medical technology and pharmacy to meet the state’s increasing demand for skilled professionals.
