IPOH: The attempted theft of railway cables near kilometer (KM) 181.945 here by a man believed to be a cable thief was successfully foiled by staff members of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), specifically from the Ipoh Signaling Unit.




In a statement issued on Sunday, KTMB reported that the man was found carrying a bag containing 16-millimeter (mm) KTMB cables along with cutting tools and a saw.
“The staff from the Ipoh Signaling Unit successfully detained a suspicious individual near KM181.945, Ipoh, who was carrying a bag containing 16mm KTMB cables, cutting equipment, and a saw.
“The swift action prevented potential damage to infrastructure and disruption to train operations.
“Any individual trespassing into KTMB premises may be prosecuted under Section 126 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715).
“If convicted, the offender can be fined up to RM1,000, while individuals who intentionally or negligently damage KTMB property may face a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment for up to three years, or both, under Section 128 of the same Act,” the statement read.
KTMB also emphasized that all railway track areas are restricted zones and that any act of trespassing or attempting to steal rail assets is a serious offense that endangers train operations and public safety.
