Ipoh, November 2025 — Faizal Saari, the former national hockey star, expressed his desire to play for his country again in a heartfelt message posted on his official Facebook page earlier today, hinting at a spectacular comeback to the Malaysian men’s hockey team.
On his personal Facebook page, the 34-year-old forward, who has spent years with the Speedy Tigers and is renowned for his lethal finishing wrote:
“DESIRE TO RETURN TO THE NATIONAL SQUAD. If given the space and opportunity, God willing, I am ready to serve.”
Following Faizal’s statement, the local hockey community has taken notice, with both supporters and commentators debating the potential implications of his return for Malaysia’s next international campaigns.
Faizal has continued to participate in domestic competitions and player development initiatives since declaring earlier this year that he would no longer be playing for his country. In the Malaysian Hockey League, he currently serves as the captain of the Terengganu Hockey Team and operates a grassroots academy that develops the next generation of strikers.
If called up, Faizal is anticipated to contribute his leadership skills, experience, and scoring instinct to a transitioning national team. Malaysia is getting ready for two significant events under head coach Sarjit Singh: the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand and the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh later this month.
Coach Sarjit has previously stressed the value of striking a balance between youth and experience, and Faizal’s presence might help achieve that. His capacity to read the game, set up scoring opportunities, and set an example could be crucial, particularly in games with a lot of pressure.
should he come back? Indeed, as a supporter, Faizal is probably going to play two roles: mentor to the team’s younger forwards and act as a senior striker leading the attack. His addition might also improve Malaysia’s set-piece play, where his strong flicks and fast reflexes have long been a strength.
However, a return will require talks with the Malaysian Hockey Confederation and national selectors, as team chemistry, form, and fitness will all be taken into consideration.
As a player who still feels he has unresolved business in the national colors, Faizal’s message for the time being is a powerful declaration of intent. His desire to return and his extensive experience may be the impetus Malaysia needs to pursue regional and global renown.
If given the chance, Faizal Saari’s comeback would not only represent a personal atonement but also have the potential to inspire hope among Malaysian hockey supporters who have long admired his fervor, ambitions, and unwavering commitment to the sport.
