IPOH — Airline Batik Air launched a new direct flight from Ipoh to Singapore today, effective 8 December 2025, marking what many see as a new chapter for aviation and tourism in the state.
This inaugural service does more than just add a route; it positions Ipoh as a leading heritage destination, now easily accessible to travellers from the neighbouring republic.

State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee described the new service as a clear vote of confidence in Perak’s tourism potential.
“Direct flights from Singapore will enable international and transit visitors to explore the state’s cultural heritage, natural beauty and unique experiences,” he said at the press conference held in conjunction with the launch of the new Ipoh–Singapore route by Batik Air at Sultan Azlan Shah Airport here today.

He added that the state government expects a positive impact on the local economy, benefiting hotels, homestays, transport operators, restaurants, travel agencies and tourism communities statewide.
He noted the initiative forms a key part of the state’s strategy ahead of the nationwide tourism push under Visit Malaysia 2026, with the ambition to establish Ipoh as a primary entry point for both international and domestic visitors.

Meanwhile, Batik Air’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, said the direct route offers fast, easy access to Ipoh from Singapore and smooth onward connections to Singapore’s global hub for travellers from Perak.
According to him, recent data shows Singapore remains Malaysia’s largest source of international visitors, with about 14 million arrivals recorded between January and August 2025 — an increase of 18.1 percent compared with the same period last year.
“This surge reflects strong demand for short getaways and weekend travel, making Ipoh the ideal new gateway,” he noted.
