MBI Offers RM16.2 Million Worth of Infrastructure Repair Contracts to Local Contractors

By Zaki Salleh

IPOH: A total of 149 work contracts have been offered by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) to eligible contracting companies, involving two main categories: civil engineering works procurement and electrical works procurement.

Of the total, 144 contracts are for civil engineering works, while the remaining are for electrical works.

The overall value of these contracts amounts to RM16.2 million, funded through allocations from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).

Ipoh Mayor, Datuk Zamakshari Hanipah, said the contracts cover infrastructure upgrading works and road resurfacing around Ipoh, as well as lamp replacement works.

According to him, the ballot-based works are open to CIDB G1 contractors within the Kinta District for civil engineering works, while for electrical works, participation is open to CIDB G1, G2, and G3 contractors.

“A total of 234 contractors successfully registered; however, blacklisted contractors were not selected in the balloting process to ensure that the integrity and credibility of project implementation are always maintained.

“The procurement value for each balloted project is up to RM200,000, in line with the Malaysian Treasury Circular on the Implementation Methods for Government Procurement/Projects for the Year 2025.

“This clearly demonstrates the government’s and MBI’s commitment to providing fair opportunities to small contractors, especially G1 contractors,” he said in a statement.

Earlier, Zamakshari officiated the balloting ceremony held at Ballroom 2, Ipoh Convention Centre.

The process was conducted using a hybrid approach, combining physical attendance and live online streaming.

This was to allow more parties to follow the balloting process in an open, transparent, and fair manner.

Zamakshari added that he is confident the implementation of these works will not only accelerate urban infrastructure development but also stimulate the economic growth of the state of Perak.

At the same time, it will help sustain the local contracting industry.
