MMA Perak Brings Community Outreach Into HRPB Paediatric Wards

By Anne Das

Members of the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Perak recently carried out a community outreach visit to the Paediatric Department of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, spending time with young patients admitted across several wards.

The visit took place during the recent Christmas period, with MMA Perak members moving through the Paediatric Surgical, Medical, Oncology and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) wards. About 80 children received gifts during the walkabout, with hospital staff assisting to coordinate the visit at bedside and along the corridors.

The team was accompanied by Dr Jamuna, Timbalan Pengarah Perubatan HRPB, together with sisters and matrons overseeing the respective paediatric wards, ensuring the visit was carried out without disrupting patient care.

In addition to engaging with patients, MMA Perak also distributed food to nurses and hospital staff on duty, acknowledging the healthcare teams supporting paediatric patients throughout the period.

Chairman of Malaysian Medical Association Perak, Dr Monesh Pillai, said the visit reflects the association’s belief that community engagement remains an important part of healthcare practice.

“Spending time with patients and healthcare teams outside the consultation room helps maintain a sense of connection and support within the hospital environment,” he said.

The initiative was organised by MMA Perak Vice Chairman Dr John Emmanuel together with members of the association, and forms part of MMA Perak’s ongoing efforts to stay engaged with the community it serves.
