IPOH — The Perak government has channelled a RM100,000 financial contribution to Sri Subramaniar Temple in Gunung Cheroh here as a show of support for the Thaipusam 2026 celebration, which marks the 120th year of its observance.
State Health, Human Resources, National Integration and Indian Community Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Sivanesan Achalingam said the contribution reflects the state government’s continued commitment to preserving harmony and respecting the diversity of religions and cultures in Perak.
He said the state, which is home to people of various races and faiths, always prioritises unity, welfare and the interests of every community in the policies it formulates.
“Thaipusam continues to be recognised as a state public holiday, in addition to receiving full support from the state government to ensure the smooth organisation of the celebration.
“Matters related to Thaipusam were also discussed in the State Executive Council meeting and received the consent and blessing of the Menteri Besar as well as the entire line-up of executive councillors to provide full support,” he said.
He was met during the Thaipusam celebration at Sri Subramaniar Temple in Gunung Cheroh here.
The more than 100-year-old temple is the main and largest temple in Perak and serves as a reference point for other temples in organising religious and cultural activities for the Hindu community in the state.
This year’s Thaipusam celebration at Gunung Cheroh also marks a historic milestone as it enters its 120th year, reflecting the harmony of Perak’s multiracial society.
