IPOH — The issue of the damaged parking site in front of Hotel Excelsior Ipoh, which previously went viral, has finally received attention after the Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (MBI) recently took action to resurface the area.
The resurfacing works not only involved the parking area in front of the hotel, which can accommodate three buses, but also covered the parking space at the rear of the premises.
The hotel management expressed appreciation and extended their gratitude to MBI for the swift action in resurfacing the parking area, which had been previously damaged and affected customers’ comfort.

However, they hope the local authority will expedite the works to mark the designated parking bays, thereby facilitating the use of the area by hotel guests.
According to the hotel management, the marking of parking bay lines has yet to be carried out despite the completion of the resurfacing works.
“This situation has forced the hotel to arrange and reposition dozens of cones each time customers’ vehicles need to use the parking area,” the management said in a statement.

The issue previously went viral, drawing strong reactions
The issue was first reported on November 1, 2025, through the Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic portal and social media platforms, drawing various reactions and heated comments from netizens, particularly residents of the city.
The hotel said the request to resurface the parking site was made following the damaged and uneven surface, which frequently caused water to accumulate whenever it rained.
Despite paying RM9,500 annually in parking site rental to MBI, the management claimed the parking area in front of the hotel had long been left eroded and without proper maintenance.

The hotel management said the condition of the parking site along Jalan Sultan Abdul Jalil had become increasingly concerning, as rainwater accumulation often made it difficult for bus passengers stopping in the area to move about.
According to them, while the resurfacing works have provided relief to both the hotel and its customers, the implementation of designated parking bay markings must be expedited to ensure the area is used in a more orderly and safe manner.
“Continuous cooperation between the hotel and MBI can enhance facilities and improve the comfort of visitors in the area,” the hotel management stressed.
