LUMUT — Complaints about public facilities at Lumut Jetty have gone viral on social media after a user raised several issues allegedly affecting visitors’ comfort.

Among the concerns was the closure of public toilets, which has caused inconvenience for those waiting for the ferry.

Users also claimed that ferry waiting times have now stretched up to two hours for each trip, resulting in congestion around the jetty.

The situation became more uncomfortable as the waiting area grew increasingly crowded, yet certain sections were reportedly off-limits for seating despite not obstructing ferry operations.

Facilities such as fans in the waiting area were also said to be non-functional, worsening the discomfort during hot weather.

The complainant further alleged that service quality at the jetty has deteriorated and urged the relevant authorities to take immediate action.

Following the viral complaints, the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) issued a clarification.

According to MPM, the management of Lumut Jetty does not fall under its jurisdiction but is overseen by the Marine Department Malaysia.

“Therefore, any complaints related to facilities and operations at Lumut Jetty should be directed to the relevant department so that further action can be taken,” the council said in a statement.

The clarification helps address public confusion regarding which authority is responsible for managing facilities at the jetty.

Members of the public meanwhile hope the relevant agency will improve facilities and enhance service quality for the comfort of users, especially during holidays and weekends when visitor numbers rise. The jetty also serves as the main gateway for tourists travelling to Pangkor Island.
