SUNGAI SIPUT — Although it is already the second week of Syawal, the festive spirit of Aidilfitri continues to be felt and celebrated.
No Hari Raya celebration is complete without lemang and rendang, traditional delicacies that symbolise the essence of the festive season.
Carrying the spirit of sharing and strengthening community ties, Persatuan Prihatin Sungai Siput (PPS) organised a programme to distribute free lemang and rendang to the public.
A total of 300 packs were distributed within two hours starting from 10am at the compound of No. 38, Sri Taman.
According to PPS chairman Mazhar Khadir, 14 volunteers assisted with the distribution to ensure the process ran smoothly and in an orderly manner.
Mazhar, who is also the founder and director of My Healthcare Services, said the programme was the first of its kind, introduced as an initiative to engage the local community.
“The selection of lemang and rendang as the main items was due to their strong symbolic value during Aidilfitri, apart from further enlivening the festive atmosphere among the community,” he said.
He also expressed hope that such programmes would continue in the future as a platform to strengthen ties between the organisation and local residents.
The initiative not only reflects the spirit of volunteerism but also serves as a means to share blessings and foster closer bonds within the community, regardless of background.
