10 cats killed as feline welfare home gutted in fire

Ipoh: A cat welfare home at the Ipoh Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Simpang Pulai was destroyed in a fire, killing 10 cats.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call regarding the incident at 5.19pm.

He said six personnel from the Simpang Pulai Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene.

“The fire involved a Class B structure used as a cat welfare home, run by Noah’s Ark, which was 80 per cent destroyed. No human casualties were reported.

“There were an estimated 50 cats at the premises, with 10 found dead,” he said on Thursday.

He added that the fire was brought under control at 6.04pm and the operation concluded fully at 7pm.
