Ipoh: Illegal extraction of river water at Buntong Waterfall has been uncovered following complaints from local residents.

The issue was also raised by a local councillor in the area.

Buntong assemblyman Thulsi Manogaran said the irresponsible activity has begun to affect water resources and disrupt the ecological balance in the area.

“Following complaints received from local residents regarding illegal river water extraction at Buntong Waterfall, I conducted a site visit to assess the situation.

“I would like to thank Councillor Sivam (Zone 6) for also highlighting this issue.

“We have referred the case to the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) for enforcement action and further resolution. The environment and water resources must be protected,” she said on Friday.

Also present during the site visit were the director of the Perak Water Resources Management Board and officers from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage.
