MBI townhall addresses unauthorised gated community issues

By: Zaki Salleh

IPOH: Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (MBI) continues to receive various complaints regarding the construction of guardhouses, installation of boom gates and barrier fences in non-strata residential areas.

The complaints involve the obstruction of public road reserves, causing inconvenience among local residents.

Some residents have also raised concerns about restricted access to public amenities and limitations faced by those who are not members of residents’ associations.

To address the issue, a town hall session with residents’ associations from Zone 24, Simpang Pulai, was organised.

The session aimed to provide clarification on enforcement actions under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974.

Also present were Simpang Pulai assemblyman Wong Chai Yi and MBI councillor Zuraidah Zakaria.

An enforcement briefing was delivered by Assistant Director of Development Control, Ts. Rabiatul Alia Azmi.

Meanwhile, a presentation on MBI’s guidelines for gated and guarded community schemes was delivered by Deputy Director of Town Planning, Jaslina Shaidin.

MBI hopes the session will improve residents’ understanding of the need to comply with existing laws and guidelines.

At the same time, residents’ associations are urged to be more proactive in obtaining approvals for security structures to ensure orderly development without compromising public interest.
