150,000 Vehicles Expected to Use WCE During Festive Season

IPOH: More than 150,000 vehicles a day are expected to use the West Coast Expressway (WCE) during the balik kampung travel period and festive holidays.

In preparation for the anticipated surge in traffic volume, WCE has implemented several measures to ensure smoother traffic flow along the highway.

WCE said all construction and maintenance works involving lane closures will be postponed throughout the peak travel period except for emergency cases.

The move is aimed at minimising traffic disruptions and ensuring traffic flow along the expressway remains under control.

In addition, tow trucks and emergency assistance vehicles will be stationed at strategic locations to respond swiftly to any incidents or emergencies.

Emergency Response Teams (ERT) and highway patrol personnel will also be reinforced to provide round-the-clock assistance.

WCE is also encouraging motorists to make use of its latest mobile application, which offers navigation features, real-time traffic information, and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered assistance.

The application also provides information on essential facilities such as EV charging stations, motorcycle shelter areas, and emergency telephones.

As part of efforts to improve digital travel convenience, the Touch ‘n Go PayDirect system is now available at all WCE toll plazas, enabling toll charges to be deducted directly from users’ e-wallets.

In terms of physical facilities, WCE currently provides six Rest and Service Areas (R&R) complete with parking spaces, surau facilities, and toilets for the convenience of highway users.

Food stalls are also available at selected locations, including the Sungai Nyior northbound and southbound R&R areas as well as Bukit Kapar northbound R&R.

Meanwhile, WCE managing director Lyndon Alfred Felix advised motorists to plan their journeys ahead and prioritise safety while travelling on the highway.

He also encouraged users to check current traffic conditions through the CCTV feature available in the WCE application before starting their journey to ensure a safer and more efficient travel experience.
