IPOH: The road surface in Kampung Khantan Baru, which has developed potholes and underlying soil erosion, has been identified as a serious hazard to road users.

According to Ipoh City Council (MBI) Chief Whip Datuk Mazlan Abd Rahman, a motorcyclist has already been injured after hitting the damaged section of the road.

“I conducted a site visit to Kampung Khantan Baru following complaints from residents regarding the worsening road condition.

“The inspection found potholes on the road surface and that the ground beneath has become hollow due to soil erosion.

“This condition is extremely dangerous as it could lead to further subsidence if immediate action is not taken,” he said.

Mazlan said he had contacted the relevant authorities to determine jurisdiction over the road and was informed that the stretch falls under the supervision of the Kinta Public Works Department (JKR Kinta).

He also noted that aside from road damage, drainage in the area was clogged and required cleaning to ensure proper water flow.

“I kindly urge JKR Kinta to give due attention and expedite repair works for the safety of road users and local residents,” he added.
