GERIK: A 26-year-old man was killed after the motorcycle he was riding is believed to have skidded and plunged into a ravine approximately 10 metres deep near Puncak Gerik along the East-West Highway today.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call regarding the incident at 10.09am.


He said a team of 12 personnel from the Gerik Fire and Rescue Station was immediately deployed to the scene.
“The accident involved a Kawasaki Z250 motorcycle that had skidded into a ravine.
“The operation commander conducted a size-up assessment and applied the Search and Visual Extraction Rescue (SAVER) concept before instructing personnel to carry out the rescue operation by bringing the victim up to the roadside using a stretcher through the highway’s tiered drainage route.
“The victim, a 26-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene by personnel from the Ministry of Health who were present at the location,” he said in a statement today.
The victim’s body was subsequently handed over to the police for further action.
