IPOH: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will enhance its Northern Sector KTM Komuter services by introducing six additional train trips daily beginning 24 July.
The move is aimed at meeting growing passenger demand while improving travel convenience, particularly during peak hours.
The additional services comprise two trips on the Padang Besar–Butterworth–Padang Besar route and four trips on the Ipoh–Butterworth–Ipoh route.
With the expansion, the total number of daily services will increase from 56 to 62 trips.
For the Ipoh–Butterworth route, the waiting time during the morning peak period will be reduced to 55 minutes, down from more than 120 minutes previously.
KTMB will also extend the operating hours of the last train in both directions on the Ipoh–Butterworth route, providing passengers with greater travel flexibility.
Meanwhile, waiting time on the Padang Besar–Butterworth route during the evening peak period will be shortened to 30 minutes, down from 60 minutes.
The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 20,000 passengers daily, equivalent to 7.3 million passengers annually.
According to KTMB, the service enhancement will make daily commuting more convenient, particularly for those travelling to work, educational institutions, and other daily commitments.
The initiative is also in line with the government’s Road to Rail agenda, which aims to encourage greater use of public transportation.
