IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) has vowed not to compromise against anyone who threatens or assaults its enforcement personnel following an incident in which one of its officers was allegedly attacked and threatened while carrying out enforcement duties in Jalan Pengkalan Barat 35 here on Friday.
Ipoh Mayor Datuk Zamakhshari Hanipah said the council viewed the incident seriously as the officer was merely performing his official duties in accordance with the law, regulations, and established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
He said preliminary reports indicated that the officer was allegedly followed, harassed, and threatened by a man after issuing a compound notice before the suspect became aggressive, posing a threat to the officer’s safety.
“Any form of violence, intimidation, threats, or obstruction against public officers carrying out their duties is a serious offence and is completely unacceptable.
“The safety and welfare of MBI personnel, especially enforcement officers on the ground, will always remain our priority,” he said in a statement today.
Zamakhshari also expressed appreciation to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), particularly the Ipoh District Police Headquarters (IPD), for their swift action in arresting a man to assist investigations into the case.
He said MBI would extend its full cooperation to the police and urged the public to refrain from speculating or spreading unverified information while investigations are ongoing.
He also called on the public to cooperate with enforcement officers and to use the proper complaint or appeal channels if they were dissatisfied with any enforcement action.
“MBI will not tolerate any act of threatening, assaulting or obstructing our personnel while they are carrying out their responsibilities to safeguard the order, safety and well-being of Ipoh city,” he said.
