TAIPING: A petrol station in Taiping is under investigation following a viral allegation that a foreign-registered vehicle purchased RON95 petrol on Monday.
Perak Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said preliminary investigations found that the incident occurred at about 4 pm on Aug 10.
He said the RON95 purchase was made with a credit card at the station’s outdoor payment terminal (OPT), while the vehicle was suspected of carrying a foreign registration number.
“Officers and enforcement personnel from the KPDN Perak Taiping branch acted swiftly by conducting an investigation at a petrol station on Aug 11 following a complaint and the circulation of information on social media.
“Sales transaction records were checked, while the petrol station’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage was obtained and reviewed to assist investigations.
“Action has been taken under sub-regulation 3(2) of the Control of Supplies (Prohibition on Sale and Purchase of Controlled Goods) (RON95 Petrol) Regulations 2026 for violating sub-regulation 3(1), which states that no person shall sell RON95 petrol to any person for use in a foreign motor vehicle without the written permission of the Controller.
“Another case is also being investigated under sub-regulation 4(3) of the same regulations for violating sub-regulation 4(1), which states that no person shall purchase RON95 petrol for use in a foreign motor vehicle without the written permission of the Controller,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
He added that the cases would be investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974.
Meanwhile, Kamalludin urged the public to act as the eyes and ears of the authorities and cooperate by providing information, particularly on activities involving the misuse or diversion of controlled and subsidised goods.
