IPOH – Taman Rishah Community Relations Council (KRT), Kinta District, organised its second badminton tournament as part of efforts to encourage youths to participate in sports activities.
A total of 63 players took part in the tournament, with participants coming from Tapah, Tanjong Tualang, Kampung Kepayang, Batu Gajah, Simpang Pulai and Ipoh.
KRT Taman Rishah chairman Thanalachmi Sarambaram said the tournament aimed to provide youths with an opportunity to spend their free time participating in beneficial activities.
She said involvement in sports could also help young people avoid getting involved in social problems and unhealthy activities.
She said the programme also received full support from Batu Gajah Member of Parliament N Sivakumar.
“We greatly appreciate YB Sivakumar’s support and concern towards KRT’s efforts to encourage youths to participate in sports activities,” she said.
She also expressed her appreciation and gratitude to Sivakumar for his support.
Sivakumar earlier attended and officiated the badminton tournament, which was held in a lively atmosphere.
The tournament is hoped to continue in the future to strengthen ties among members of the community.
Apart from identifying new talents, the event also served as a platform to bring together youths from various areas through healthy sporting activities.
