IPOH – Malaysia ID Para Hockey Team made history by winning the bronze medal at the inaugural 2026 ID Para Hockey World Cup held in Belgium and the Netherlands.
In the third and fourth-place playoff, Malaysia defeated Belgium 3-1 at Wagener Stadium in Amstelveen, Netherlands.
The victory secured Malaysia third place in the world tournament.
The achievement demonstrated Malaysia’s ID Para Hockey players’ ability to compete at the international level.
Malaysia ID Hockey Team Deputy Head of Delegation, Shanker Retinam, said the success was the result of the support and prayers of Malaysians nationwide.
He said the bronze medal marked the beginning of a greater journey for Malaysia ID Para Hockey on the world stage.
“The players also displayed tremendous fighting spirit, discipline and mental resilience despite facing fierce competition from some of the world’s best teams.
“This historic achievement is a symbol of the team’s courage and determination in making Malaysia proud,” he said in a statement to the media.
Throughout the tournament, the players, coaches and officials worked tirelessly to ensure Malaysia competed with pride and dignity.
The team also expressed its appreciation to the players’ families, management, coaches, sponsors and supporters for their continuous support.
For the record, six of the 10 players in the squad are athletes from Perak.
