IPOH: Mushroom farming can generate lucrative returns for those interested in venturing into agropreneurship.
The Basic Mushroom Production Course and Young Agropreneur Grant programme, organised by the Persatuan Pasukan Keselamatan Rakyat Setia Berjasa Sukarela Negeri Perak in collaboration with the Kinta District Agriculture Department, recently provided participants with an opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge about mushroom cultivation.
According to the association’s secretary, A. Jegetiswary, the knowledge gained through mushroom production and the Young Agropreneur Grant is hoped to be fully utilised to produce more competitive and successful agropreneurs in Perak.
“The association would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Kinta District Agriculture Department, guests, organising committee members and all participants who demonstrated outstanding commitment.
“The exposure to mushroom cultivation provides participants with an opportunity and insight into becoming entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector,” she said.
Among the advantages of mushroom farming is that the crop can be harvested within just three to four weeks.
It also does not require a large area of land, as cultivation can be carried out in shaded spaces or specially designated rooms.
Furthermore, mushrooms are in high demand and are consistently sought after for the fresh produce and restaurant markets.
Also present at the programme were Kampung Tengku Hussein village head Muhammad Iqbal and Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Development chairman Edward.
