The Art of Michael Lip, and A Blessed Journey

An exhibition of Michael Lip’s artworks, and a launch of a book on his life’s journey will take place at the 23 Hale Street Heritage Art Gallery in Ipoh on 26 September.

Michael, a landscape architect by profession and an accomplished artist on the side, has chosen to launch his landmark exhibition of 65 paintings, and his autobiography titled “A Blessed Journey”, in Ipoh where he grew up.
He has also invited his friends to exhibit their works at the same time.
Acrylic and watercolour are his medium, and his keen eye and interest in people, nature, culture and heritage come alive and vividly in his works.
His style in painting often involves layering, using mixed media, soft textures to reflect the emotional depth of his experiences.
Art has always been present in Michael Lip’s journey through life, beginning in his early days as a student in St Michael’s Institution in Ipoh. It has stayed with him through his studies abroad and a flourishing career as an architect, landscape architect and interior designer.
He has dabbled in fashion designing, put up fashion shows and even won prizes and got published in magazines and newspapers for his designs. In later years with more time on his hands, he has indulged in craft-making, baking and jelly-making, always with an artistic slant.
His deep passion and love for art and painting is reflected in this showcase of his works.
“A Blessed Journey” traces the path Michael has trodden in life, the choices he has made, developing his creative talents and achieving his career goals while not losing sight of family, friends and those who have touched his life.
It’s a transformative spiritual journey through life’s trials, both challenging and joyful.
Part of the proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to charity,
The art exhibition at the Hale Street Gallery will be from September 26 to October 11. It’s open to the public.
On Saturday October 3, there will be two craft workshops on glass bottle painting and T-shirt painting for children above 12 years old.
There will also be a gift shop at the Gallery and on sale will be miniature paintings on tiles, hand painted T-shirts by Michael and postcards and gift cards with prints of his paintings and Ipoh’s colonial buildings.
