SUNGAI SIPUT – Perak police have successfully crippled Bitcoin mining and electricity theft activities in several raids conducted in Sungai Siput and Perak Tengah on August 31.
Perak Police Chief, Dato’ Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin, said three raids were carried out around Sungai Siput in collaboration with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
The raids resulted in the seizure of 132 Bitcoin mining machines and various related equipment.
During the third raid at Taman Alamanda, a 39-year-old local man with eight previous criminal records was also arrested.
Meanwhile, 36 Bitcoin mining machines, a router, desktop switch and cut electrical cables were seized in Perak Tengah.
In total, 168 Bitcoin mining machines, along with networking equipment and electrical cables, were seized.
Mohd Alwi said the misuse of electricity supply could cause losses to the utility provider while also posing a risk of fire and endangering public safety.
Premise owners, particularly those with vacant or rented-out properties, are advised to increase monitoring to prevent their premises from being misused for criminal activities.
Members of the public with information regarding electricity theft or illegal Bitcoin mining activities are urged to channel the information to the police.
