TAIPING: The owner of a sizzling restaurant was fined RM18,000 by the Taiping Sessions Court on Monday after pleading guilty to displaying the words “Allah” and “Muhammad” at the premises.
Perak Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said a team of enforcement officers from the Taiping branch inspected the restaurant in Jalan Kamunting on January 1.
“During the inspection, the premises were found to be using representations related to Islam, including hanging decorations bearing the words ‘Allah’ and ‘Muhammad’.
“Checks on the status of the Malaysia Halal Certificate with the Perak Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIPk) confirmed that the restaurant was not a holder of the Malaysia Halal Certification,” he said.
Kamalludin said analysis by the Department of Chemistry Malaysia also found that two bottles of soy sauce seized from the premises contained porcine deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).
He said the accused, Seah Thien Lim, 43, had committed an offence under Regulation 4(1) of the Trade Descriptions (Definition of Halal) Order 2011.
“The charge was read out on Monday, and the accused pleaded guilty. The prosecution was conducted by prosecuting officer Mohamed Nizam Mohamed Yunan,” he said.
