TAIPING: Five individuals who went missing while hiking in Bukit Larut late yesterday afternoon near here were found safe after being successfully contacted.
The Assistant Director of Operations, Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, said the victims, consisting of two men and three women aged between 26 and 29, only suffered leg cramps due to exhaustion.
He said the department received a call about the incident at 6.01 pm and dispatched 15 personnel from Taiping and Kamunting Fire and Rescue Stations to the location.
“The fire department received information from NG999 that five hikers were lost while climbing in Bukit Larut.
“The police informed us that one of the victims managed to be contacted and reported that he was lost together with four friends.
“The operation leader successfully located the victims and proceeded with the rescue operation with the assistance of a Land Rover from Bukit Larut management.
“At 9.43 pm, the operation leader reported that the operation was under control, and all victims were found safe, without serious injuries, only experiencing leg cramps due to exhaustion,” he said on Thursday.
He added that the victims were later brought down from the hill and handed over to the police for further action.
The operation was completed at 12.03 midnight.
