IPOH: An elderly couple and their grandson were killed in a house fire at Persiaran Desa Tambun 4, Taman Desa Tambun, here early this morning.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Datuk Sayani Saidon said the department received an emergency call about the incident at about 4am, prompting firefighters from the Tambun and Ipoh Fire and Rescue Stations to rush to the scene.
He said four victims were involved in the incident, with three killed and one surviving.
“Firefighters received an emergency call through NG999 about a house fire.
“When the fire engines arrived at the scene, they found a two-storey terrace house 70 percent engulfed in flames. Three victims were killed while another survived.
“The deceased were Raja Ahmad Raja Ali, 69; Zaitun Mohamed, 64; and Nik Abdurrahman Azimin Harith Helal, 18.
“Meanwhile, Raja Ikhwan Hadi Raja Ahmad, 47, survived as he was reportedly sleeping in the house’s parking area,” he said in a statement today.
It is understood that the male victim was found in a bathroom on the ground floor, while two other victims, the woman and her grandson, were trapped upstairs.
One of them was found in an upstairs bathroom, while the other was found in a bedroom near an upstairs window.
“Based on the information received, all the victims were related and the house was occupied by six people.
“Only four people were inside the house when the incident occurred,” he said.
Sayani said firefighters had to cut through the locked door of the neighbouring unoccupied house to facilitate firefighting operations.
“The fire was completely extinguished and the bodies of all three victims were handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police forensic team,” he said.
